Henry Hawk was one of the five subjects designated for Doctor Bong's experiment to duplicate the High Evolutionary's process of giving animals human intelligence and turning humans into animal humanoids.
Hawk then became Bird-Man, one of the Unholy Five. The original Unholy Five were recruited and outfitted by AIM who sent them to defeat the Defenders.
