John Gallo was a student at Empire State University, where he would meet his future teammates Eddie McDonough, Cassie St. Commons, and Ritchie Gilmore. After he was exposed to Terrigen, it was discovered he was a Inhuman and gained various Inhuman abilities. Soon after John along with some of his other class mates were recruited by retired vigilante Whizzer, into a group of teenage superhumans called the Young Avengers. Whizzer provided Gallo with the suit, equipment and identity of Ricochet . Johnny readily accepted since as Ricochet he could freely use his powers to help people.
- Superhuman Agility: Ricochet possesses the power of superhuman agility, enabling him to leap great distances. He has incredible reflexes and coordination, and when combined with his leaping powers, can seemingly bounce off walls (ricocheting, as it were).
- Danger Sense: Ricochet's powers also give him a "Danger Sense", that functions much like Spider-Man's "Spider-Sense", allowing him to sense danger before it happens.
- Superhuman Reflexes: Ricochet's natural reaction time is enhanced to a level beyond the human body's natural limits.
