Barry Bauman was born with a nerve disorder, he was basically a vegetable with none of his senses. This left Barry in his own world where he soon began to grow resentful of the people of Earth for his condition. SHIELD then chose to study Barry's condition and possibly find a solution. One day SHIELD was transporting the Tesseract near the medical where Barry was being treated. The Tesseract was accidentally dropped, and the friction generated a wave of energy that hit Barry's room. At the time Barry was hooked up to an experimental device that was a prototype in giving Barry his senses. When the energy hit the device it not only gave Barry his senses but imbued him with powerful cosmic power.
Barry then used his power to construct armor for himself made from the metal in the hospital, then he grew a set of wings while giving himself the name Star-Thief. He then left the hospital and flew off into space, where he chose to get his revenge on human kind by using his power to orchestrate a meteor to plummet towards the Earth, killing millions,
This gained the attention of Adam Warlock who saw fit to stop Barry. After a long battle Adam managed to destroy the meteor before it could hit Earth's atmosphere. Adam then turned Barry's energy against himself and in the process Barry was transported to the other side of the Universe. He then became an enemy of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
